Local businesses being warned against Global computer attack
On Friday 12th of May 2017 an unprecedented Global attack on computer systems saw up to 200,000 computers in 150 countries being attacked by hackers. The “WannaCry” virus infects a vunerability in outdated and insecure computers performing a lockdown so that the owners are asked to pay a ransom to have their computers unlocked. “We have never seen any attack on a scale like this before” said Dalton Dullaghan from Dundalk based IT company Dash.ie “We expect this to be a Meltdown Monday in Ireland as people return to work today and switch on their computers”. Dash have been working with their customers to update their systems and educate them on how to recognise the threats. IT companies all over Ireland are bracing themeselves for a flood of calls today.
